This course will enable students to develop their design ideas and practical skills through the medium of textiles. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the areas of fashion and textiles in the home.
Units of work include: Fibres, Fabrics, Enhancement of fabrics and Fashion product construction
Using theoretical and practical experience, the students will study design needs, fibre classification, construction and maintenance techniques, embroidery techniques / computerised design, the influence of fashion, advertising and the media, correct choice and use of tools.
Coursework 60% - there is a bank of tasks to be chosen from as part of the controlled assessment. Students have 45 hours in which to research, develop and make a textiles product. Written Paper 2 hours. 40%
